For imprisoned people, the reimagining of one’s sense of self, experience of and contribution to the world is an act of both resistance and triumph. A reading of award-winning writing from the PEN Prison Writing program archives presented at the 2018 PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature.
Featuring Raquel Almazan, Julia Steele Allen, asha bandele, Donna Hylton, Mitchell S. Jackson, Liza Jessie Peterson, Alejo Rodriguez and Demian Vitanza. Hosted by Caits Meissner and Rob Pollock.
Founded in 1971, the PEN Prison Writing Program believes in the restorative, rehabilitative, and transformative possibilities of writing. We provide hundreds of imprisoned writers across the country with free writing resources, skilled mentors, and audiences for their work.
